Okay so I managed to post my favorite quote yesterday when posting about my favorite book, but I'll go with quotes #2 and #3 instead.
Try to love your neighbors actively and tirelessly. The more you succeed in loving, the more you'll be convinced of the existence of God and the immortality of your soul. And if you reach complete selflessness in the love of your neighbor, then undoubtedly you will believe.
Dostoevsky in The Brothers Karamazov
The most powerful weapon on earth is the human soul on fire.

My dear, wonderful little brother gave me this book as a graduation present in 2007 and I fell in love after the first paragraph.
When I was very young and the urge to be someplace else was on me, I was assured by mature people that maturity would cure this itch. When years described me as mature, the remedy prescribed was middle age. In middle age I was assured that greater age would calm my fever and now that I am fifty-eight perhaps senility will do the job. Nothing has worked. Four hoarse blasts of a ship's whistle still raise the hair on my neck and set my feet to tapping. The sound of a jet, an engine warming up, even the clopping of shod hooves on pavement brings on the ancient shudder, the dry mouth and vacant eye, the hot palms and the churn of a stomach high up under the rib cage. In other words, I don't improve; in further words, once a bum always a bum. I fear the disease is incurable.
John Steinbeck
I'm dying to get "I fear the disease is incurable" tattooed with my birds to ~signify my intense wanderlust, but I don't want people to see it as a breast cancer tattoo or something and it'd be too much of a pain to explain. (Instead I think I'm going to get "I have tried in my way to be free," which almost as awesome.)

It's technically Sunday now sooooo...

There are a lot of shows I love to the max, but The West Wing will always be the absolute greatest with Lost and Arrested Development in a close 2nd and 3rd.

Not my favorite of all time, but one I watched recently that was very very great.

I had a really difficult time narrowing it down to just ten, so I'm just going to post the albums I really liked this year and rank the top five. I can't believe I chose an album besides one by The Decemberists as my top for the year, but Hazards of Love took way too long to grow on me (and I still think it's some of Colin's worst writing at some parts (a forest's son a river's daughter lol)) while I And Love And You is perfect from start to end.
1.

The Avett Brothers - I And Love And You
2.

The Decemberists - The Hazards of Love
3.

Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele - The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele
4.

Lily Allen - It's Not Me It's You
5.

The Two Man Gentlemen Band - Drip Dryin'

Imma do that 30 day meme for as many days as I can remember to!
Day 01: My favorite song
Shiny by The Decemberists
BONUS ROUND:
This is a video of them playing it at the Myspace Secret Show in Austin back in July 2007. Colin said something about them not having a setlist and taking requests, so I immediately shrieked PLAAAAAY SHIIINYYYYYYYY so they did! For me! After 7 times seeing them and wishing they'd play it, they did and they did it for me. :D

this year was pretty fucking ridiculous.
( month-by-month breakdown )
so i feel like things are looking up and seattle 2.0 (3.0?) is finally starting to jell. plus i've mostly made peace with turning 30 in one month. i think we really are gonna go stay at that beagle-shaped hotel in idaho, if the roads aren't snowed in. or maybe i'll find tickets to tokyo for $386 again. i definitely want to take a trip, however humble.
i don't really believe in new year's resolutions--that's just asking for trouble--but i'd really like to discipline myself about drawing. comics, illustrations, even just doodling, as long as i'm getting some of it done every other day or so. i'm improving at a steady clip. it'd be cool if i had a book's worth of little historical comics by the end of the year.
i'd also like to get a real job, but i mean. if i keep working as much as i am right now, i might be all right. i just might be all right.
yeah, 2009 can suck a dick, straight up. sounds like everyone had a rough year. fingers crossed for the next one.
